1、簡單介詞：簡單介詞是由一個單詞構成的介詞。分為普通介詞(如：at，by，for，in，over，to，up 等),合成介詞(如：as for，onto，into，within，without，out of 等)，和分詞介詞(如：concluding，regarding，concerning 等)三種。
2、二重介詞：二重介詞是由兩個簡單介詞重疊使用構成的。如：from among，since before，until after，except in等。
3、短語介詞：介詞是由兩個或者兩個以上的詞所組成的短語構成的。一般説來，這個短語的最後一個詞是簡單介詞。如：according to，because of，instead of，in front of，with reference to 等。
4、表示地點。如：about，across，after，among，around，behind，below，beside，beyond，down，from，into，off，over，throughout，towards，up，within，withou等。
5、表示時間。如：about，after，around，as，at，before，behind，between，by，during，for，from，in，into，of，on，over，past，since，through，till(until)，to，towards，within 等。
6、表示除去。如：besides，but，except 等。
7、表示比較。如：as，like，above，over 等。
8、表示原因、目的。如：for，with，from 等。
9、表示結果。如：to，with，without 等。
10、表示手段、方式。如：by，in，with 等。
11、表示所屬。如：of，with 等。
12、表示條件。如：on，without，considering 等。
13、表示讓步。如：despite，in spite of，notwithstanding 等。
14、表示關於。如：about，concerning，regarding，with regard to，as for，as to 等。
15、表示對於。如：to，for，over，at，with 等。
16、表示根據。如：on，according to 等。
17、表示其他。如：for(贊成)，without(沒有)等。
