1、描述形容詞。表示名詞的性質、顏色、大小和狀態等的形容詞。如：He boughtsome new books. 他買了一些新書。These books are new. 這些書是新的。She wrote the letter with blue ink. 她用藍墨水寫了那封信。The ink is blue. 這些墨水是藍色的。
2、物質形容詞。由物質名詞充當或物質名詞轉換而成的形容詞。如：This glass dish looks very fragile. 這個玻璃盤子看起來很容易碎。Its a glassy substance. 這是一種像玻璃一樣光滑的物質。
3、數量形容詞。不定數量形容詞：不定代詞之後接名詞時即成為不定數量形容詞。如：、We got there without any trouble. 我們順利到達那裏。Well see some friends tomorrow. 我們明天將去看一些朋友
4、數詞。如：A square has four corners. 正方形有4個角。Please accent the first syllable. 請重讀第一個音節。
5、倍數詞。如：The river is half a mile across. 江面寬半英里。They bought a double bed. 他們買了一張雙人牀。
6、專有形容詞。由專有名詞轉換而成的形容詞如地名、國名等。如：He is a Chinese ambassador. 他是中國的大使。He was born in Shanghai. 他出生於上海。
7、物主形容詞。包括人稱代詞的所有格（形容詞性物主代詞）和名詞的所有格。如：My room is just above. 我的房間就在樓上。Acquaint him with your plans. 把你的計劃告訴他。
8、指示形容詞。指示代詞this，that，these，those之後接名詞或one/ones，成為指示形容詞。如：This book of Joes is very amusing. 喬的這本書非常有趣。I dislike man of that type. 我不喜歡那一類型的人。
9、疑問形容詞。疑問代詞which，whose，what之後接名詞或代詞，成為疑問形容詞。如：Whose bike is it? 這是誰的自行車？What books have you read on this subject? 你讀過哪些關於這方面的書？
10、關係形容詞。關係代詞which，whose，what之後接名詞，成為關係形容詞。如：The men whose names were called left the room. 哪些被叫到名字的人離開了房間。Do you give her what money you had? 你把你所有的錢都給了她嗎？
11、副詞形容詞。有少數副詞由於沒有相應的形容詞，也可以充當形容詞。如：The bhere is mine. 這兒的這個球是我的。He caught the up train. 他趕上了上行的火車。
12、動詞形容詞。由動詞轉化成的形容詞，即現在分詞、過去分詞。如：In spring weuncover the swimming pool. 春天我們移去游泳池的覆蓋物。There is runningwater in the kitchen and the bathroom. 廚房和衞生間都有自來水。
13、形容詞[adjective] 很多語言中均有的主要詞類中的一種。主要用來修飾名詞的詞,表示事物的特徵。
