1、other表示別的、另外的，只能與複數名詞連用。但other前有冠詞the即可與單數名詞連用。The other表示兩個中的另一個，是特指。如：I have two pens. One is blue. The other (pen) is black。意思是，我有兩枝鋼筆。一支是藍色的，另一支是黑色的。
2、another表示三個以上中任意的另一個，是泛指。如：His parents both work in a hospital. One is a doctor and the other is a nurse。意思是，他父母都在一家醫院工作。一個是醫生，一個是護士。（父母為兩個人）
